I come from a background of 11 years in the British Army and 19 years as a Wholetime Firefighter giving me a broad experience of competitive sport and military fitness. My family means everything to me and the time we spend on outdoor adventures is what motivates me and drives me to stay fit.
I've always had a keen interest in some form of sport having started gymnastics at the age of 7 and going on to compete at county level. It wasn't until 2012 that I discovered CrossFit. I tried my local 'box' on recommendation from a friend. That first session nearly killed me but I knew I was already addicted to the 'feel good factor' that the CrossFit programme and community brings.
I come from a military background where I was a geological surveyor in the Royal Engineers. I am now a Wholetime Firefighter with the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service and part-time coach at Aeternum CrossFit.
I started doing Crossfit style workouts in a garage gym with a work mate in about 2012 after having no previous sport or exercise experience, even as a child! I then joined a Crossfit gym a year or 2 later and decided to put myself through my Crossfit level one. After doing this I began being an instructor at that Crossfit gym. Later when Evolution Functional Fitness opened, I joined the Instructor team there, and have been part of it since (excluding a couple of summers).
In my spare time I like being outdoors and enjoy snowboarding, mountain biking, surfing and hill walking.
I started doing CrossFit in 2011 as a way to improve my fitness for Kickboxing. It didn’t take long before the Kickboxing fell away and I started focusing on CrossFit as my only training. After about a year I did my level one trainer course and started coaching at CrossFit Fife. I left there after 6 years and in March 2017 opened Evolution Functional Fitness and Aeternum CrossFit.
When not in the gym I work as a self-employed IT consultant, and enjoy socialising with friends and spending time with my kids.
I have always been active and enjoy playing a variety of different sports. Before starting CrossFit in 2017 I regularly played football at a competitive level and still enjoy doing so when my work schedule allows it.
The reason I enjoy Aeternum CrossFit so much is because it is constantly varied and everyday is so different. I have competed as an individual and as part of a team both in the UK and in Europe across a variety of competitions.
I have been passionate about sport from a young age. I was the youngest member of our primary netball team, country sprint champion, athletics champion, in my year; at two separate schools.
I began horse riding when I was still young and competed from the age of 9; receiving lottery funding for a couple of years for my achievements. I continued to compete and work in the industry until I was 24.
